As a 14 year old in 1997 I grew an interest in building websites. I taught myself HTML and then CSS when I was in college and JavaScript after that. I also picked up WordPress in college and have been using it since.
I had been diagnosed with ADHD and put on Methylphenidate (generic Ritalin), which throughout high school I took 3 times a day. It helped me focus but as many know it comes with a lot of downsides as well. When I started college I thought that I could forego meds for my ADHD and still get things done, but I was (very) wrong. I then got put on Concerta which, as it is time-released was one pill a day, and what previously was many peaks and valleys (crashes) became much smoother. It was such a dramatic change that I grew very fond of Concerta.
All throughout college when I wanted to get things (such as a paper) done, I would either sit in the common suite area of my dorm or go to the computer lab. Now I understand that what I needed was body doubling.
I had at some point learned about the term 'body doubling' and then re-learned it on TikTok in late 2019. The pandemic hit and I had come to the realization that I needed body doubling, and now. I had thought that there must be a place where people could get together to speak of it/organize it somewhere on the internet, but in my searches I found none. I then used my web development knowledge to build precisely that which I was then missing.
I am so glad that I did, because the people that I have met through this site (and it's Discord server) are incredible. Not only have I met people from all over the earth, but they have been kind, authentic, interesting people. I am excited that I will continue to meet more like them.
