I’m new to this server. How do I do this?

The most common channels are body doubling (muted) and free movement. Join wherever there‘s other humans, and go about your body doubling day! You figure out what kind of task you want to do on your own, then choose the best voice channel for it. Voice channels have the little speaker icon next to them. You can either join a session in progress or join a voice chat room and wait for someone else to join you!

What are the different voice channels for?

Explanation of the different Voice Channels

  • Body Doubling (muted) is kind of a default channel for a lot of folks—no talking, and generally most people with cameras on are in front of a computer and not moving around a lot.
  • Open Mics is similar, except that people might not be muted. Some folks appreciate hearing background noise to help keep them present, so this is a place that can have that.
  • Free Movement means that you can feel free to move around without worrying about distracting others or when you don’t mind/won’t be distracted if other people are. It’s for people who might not always be at their desks/in frame on their cameras, so for example cleaning, walking around, etc.
  • Chatty/Active tasks: For cooking/cleaning/Other tasks like this you can either choose chatty or active tasks, depending on whether you’re interested in talking to others while being active/busy doing something or not.
  • 1-on-1, 3 is a crowd: These channels are for people who want to meet up with a body double partner (or two) for a private body double session.
  • Cams-on: This is a channel where using cam is compulsory. If you decide to body double without a cam, be away from the cam or turn the video off for a while, please switch to any other voice channel.
What is the Pomodoro Technique?

Wikipedia article: Pomodoro Technique

There is a pomodoro section at the bottom of the channels with a Dashboard and a Lobby. Once someone is in the lobby, they are able to start a pomodoro session in the Dashboard.

Using the Sensei Doro bot is explained below.

How do I set up the Sensei Doro bot?

Quick Guide to Sensei Doro To setup the Sensei Doro (pomodoro) bot you:

  1. join the “lobby” voice channel
  2. click on “more”
  3. click “edit”
  4. put in the amount of minutes you’d like for the works session/breaks
  5. press start!

You‘ll be automatically put into a “focus” channel during work time and go back to “lobby” during breaks.

How to best translate time-zones in text chat channels?

A bot named Friend Time has been implemented to help us translate time zones of times mentioned in the channels. In order for it to work, all users must configure it – a quick how-to is available here.

Do I need to keep my video on the whole time?

No. The goal of this site is to provide whatever you need to be more productive. Yes, you.

Do I need to keep my mic on?

Also no. Some of us mute our mics during sessions, often using the pomodoro technique and talking only during the breaks.

How do I find others to do this with?

You can join our discord server here and either join a session in progress or join a voice/video chat room and wait for someone to join you!

Can I listen to music or watch a show? What about my loud family in the background - won't that bother people?

All of this is perfectly fine so long as you’re aware of it and you mute your microphone so others can concentrate.

Will you listen to my ideas about things that could improve the server?

There is a channel for this on the server called ‘suggestions’. Your opinion matters, and I
